A Message from Barb

Prayer is the root, the fountain, the mother of a thousand blessings
-Saint John Chrysostom

Pope Frances has encouraged us to dedicate the year of 2024 to prayer in preparation for the 2025 Jubilee of Hope. I thought that would be an excellent focus for us as we move into fall and prepare for the new liturgical year in December.

I don’t know about you but I often find that as my prayer life goes so goes my life. There have been times of great fruit and times of dryness. What has kept me moving forward, in spite of this is that I have developed prayer habits that I do my best to stick with. Habits help us keep what is important on our schedule. I am sure if I had not developed these routines and had to wake up every day and decide my prayer life would look quite different. I know this for a fact because things like vacations can throw me off and I get off tract really quick!

So, this month join me in the task of doing a good review of how prayer is fitting into your life. Do you have a routine? Does it need tweaking? Are there areas you can adjust? I know for me the morning routine is strong but I need to work on a routine at night when I often hit my wall and everything crumbles! So that is what I will be working to tweak this month. To help us all out please send me ideas and resources that help your prayer life. We will work on adding them to our prayer page. You can send these to bprasad@diojeffcity.org. Also follow us on Facebook and Instagram for more prayer tips this month. We’d love to share some of your too, so help us out! Let’s prepare for the Jubilee of Hope by getting our prayer life in order, starting with this inventory! We also have an excellent book of the month recommendation to help kick this off!

Finally, I hope you will take some time to read over the other opportunities coming up. We have some great faith formation recommendations for fall. We have added a new study on Pope John Paul’s Letter to Women, have opportunities for hosting a book signing with the local author of My Perfect Wife, Her Perfect Son and also are introducing a program called Well Read Mom. Be sure to check these out. We also have numerous opportunities to gather together so don’t miss out visiting our events page.

I know 2025 will be here in the blink of an eye so let’s get ready for the Jubilee! Preparing together and celebrating together will not only make it more fun but more fruitful. Let’s Get Praying!

We Are Better Together!

Pope Francis has asked that the year 2024 be dedicated to a "great symphony of prayer" as the Church prepares for the Jubilee of 2025: Pilgrims of Hope. This is a great book to get us started. Questions at the end of each chapter make it perfect for sharing with a group. Thanks to Barb Garvey of Brookfield MO for the recommendation!
