A Message from Barb

God creates out of nothing. Wonderful you say. Yes, to be sure, but he does what is still more wonderful: he makes saints out of sinners.

I am writing this newsletter hot off attending all the wonderful events we had this weekend at the Cathedral. Friday and Saturday were filled with words of inspiration from Father Leo Patalinghug. He challenged us to live our lives with sainthood as the goal, not only us but our families as well! He also gave us great tips on how to do it! The Vigil Project filled our Cathedral with songs of praise and worship and honestly words can’t describe the feelings they evoked. The Holy Spirit was DEFINITELY present. For those of you who were there I hope you enjoyed the weekend as much as I did. My only regret is that some of you missed it! I know there is never a perfect time to hold an event, and the date will never work out for everyone, but I hope that those of you who missed it will give one of our events a try. You truly don’t know what you are missing! Ladies that attended, help us spread the word! Tell your friends about your experience and drag them along to the next one!

If you need some spiritual enrichment in the meantime gather a group of ladies together to host our Fall Book Study, Endows: Letter to Women. This book’s study is so easy to lead. The opening and closing prayers are included, you do the reading in the meeting and the questions are provided. If you can read, you can lead this one! I am leading a group, and we just finished our fourth session. The conversation is lively, and the topic is so relevant
to the issues of our world today. It is so refreshing to hear women from multiple generations sharing on these topics. Pope John Paul II wrote this letter over 25 years ago
and it is as relevant today as it was then. If you have never explored any of the letters of our popes, this is the one to start with!

Also, this month our church is focusing her prayers on the souls in purgatory. We often ask in prayer for the saints to intercede for us. There are patron saints for any problem, concern, weakness or need you may have. I know I put St Anthony to work yesterday when I misplaced my phone while working the youth event! We, however, also have a part to play
in our churches circle of prayer. While saints are praying for us, we are called to pray for all the souls in purgatory who are destined for heaven but are not yet pure enough to enter. Our prayers can help move this process along. What a wonderful gift that God in his infinite wisdom connects us all in this beautiful way. We are part on One Holy and Apostolic Church and that church transcends both time and space! Don’t take this for granted. Right now, is our time and place to carry out God’s mission on earth. He is calling us to sainthood. I am praying we all have the courage to answer the call! I feel so lucky to have women such as you making the journey with me.

We are Better Together,

Barb
