About St. Joseph in Pilot Grove, Missouri

The Pilot Grove area was first settled in 1820, and was incorporated as a town in 1873. The first Church services were held beneath the canopy of the open sky, then in rude cabins, thus and farmers' homes. Then, in 1893, St. Joseph Catholic Church was organized by Father John Conrad from St. John's in Clear Creek.

The current Church is actually the third building, built by the parish in 1952. It was dedicated on May 10, 1956. The history of St. Joseph Parish would not be complete without recognizing the other church communities that have merged with the parish over the decades. The communities of Nelson, Martinsville, Clear Creek, and Clifton City have clusters to comprise today's parish family of St. Joseph, which has served the faithful for more than 165 years.
