Event Information



  • Prayer and Service Project with Diaconate Community: 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.  at  Father Tolton Catholic High School (Columbia) and other locations in Columbia.

Bishop-elect McKnight will join with the diocesan Diaconate Community (deacons, their wives, those in formation and their wives) for a prayer service and a service project in Columbia.   The community will gather to pray Mid-Day prayer and the Bishop-elect will have a talk with the community before dismissal to proceed to service locations.  (locations to be provided at a later date)

  • Holy Hour with Priests: 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church (Jefferson City)

Bishop-elect McKnight will gather with the priests of the diocese for a Holy Hour in front of the Blessed Sacrament.  Priests and the Bishop-elect will pray Evening Prayer and he will give a talk to the priests.  Following the Holy Hour, attendees are invited to the St. Peter Rectory for a reception.


  • Prayer with Religious: 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Schwartze Catholic Center (Jefferson City)

Bishop-Elect McKnight will meet with the Religious of the diocese.  The community will pray Mid-Day prayer in the chapel and the Bishop-elect will give a talk, and then all will gather in  for lunch.

  • Evening Prayer with Laity: 6 p.m. at Cathedral of St. Joseph (Jefferson City)  *OPEN TO THE PUBLIC*

The Bishop-elect will lead a Vespers Service and Bishop Emeritus Gaydos will preach the homily.  There will be reserved seating for dignitaries and special guests. All attendees are invited to a reception in the Cathedral undercroft following Vespers.


  • Meal and Pre-Ordination/Installation Gathering for Priests: 11 a.m. at Cathedral of St. Joseph School Gym (Jefferson City)

This is for participants at the Mass.

  • Meal and Pre-Ordination/Gathering for Bishops and Other Invitees:  11 a.m. at Schwartze Catholic Center (Jefferson City)

  •  Ordination and Installation Mass for W. Shawn McKnight, Bishop of Jefferson City:        2 p.m. at Cathedral of St. Joseph  (Jefferson City)   *TICKETED EVENT – INVITEES ONLY*

The event will be broadcast live, starting at 2 p.m., on the EWTN cable channel and streamed live on the Internet at EWTN.com.

The procession into the Cathedral will begin around 1:20 p.m.  Each parish of the diocese will have 3 selected representatives, so all parishes and missions across the diocese can be represented.

Because of limited parking at the Cathedral, invitees will receive instructions regarding parking. There will be shuttle services from off-site parking areas to Saint Joseph Cathedral and to and from the banquet.

  • Reception: Following Mass at Cathedral Undercroft (Jefferson City)  *MASS ATTENDEES ONLY*

The new Bishop will go to the Cathedral undercroft to greet the people at a reception.

  • Banquet: 6 p.m. at Helias Field House and Gym (Jefferson City)   *TICKETED EVENT – INVITEES ONLY*

There will be a banquet for invited guests.
