Deacon Richard H. Luebbering, 85, a retired deacon who served at St. Peter parish in Marshall, died on May 11 in Marshall.
The Mass of Christian Burial was to be celebrated on May 17 in St. Peter Church in Marshall.
Visitation was to be held from 1 to 2 p.m. on Friday, May 18, in St. Thomas the Apostle Church in St. Thomas. Graveside services with military honors will follow at 2:30 p.m. in St. Thomas Cemetery.
Deacon Luebbering was born on Aug. 27, 1932, in St. Thomas, a son of the late Ben and Emma (Lueckenotto) Luebbering.
On Feb. 5, 1955, he was united in marriage to the former Monica Libbert, who survives of the home.
Richard lived in Marshall since 1972, moving from St. Thomas. He worked at F.M. Stamper Co. in Jefferson City and retired in 1994 from ConAgra Foods in Marshall. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served during the Korean War and was a member of Malta Bend American Legion Post 558.
He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council Fr. Edward Hamill Council 876 in Marshall and the Knights’ Father Tony Kraff Fourth Degree Assembly 576.
On Dec. 4, 1999, in the Cathedral of St. Joseph, Bishop John R. Gaydos, now retired, ordained him a deacon of the Church.
At St. Peter parish, Deacon Luebbering worked with the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults.
Surviving are his wife; four children, Roger Dale Luebbering (Jo) of Columbia, Charles Lee Luebbering (Martha) of Tucson, Arizona, Theresia Lynn Willis (Alan) of Sturgeon, and Shirley Ann Bosley (Junior) of Marshall; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Evelyn Luebbering of Lohman, Henrietta Kleffner of Taos and Lucille Engelmeyer of Wardsville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers, Jerome and Ralph Luebbering; and one sister, Marcella Morff.
