Divine Mercy Sunday, April 8

April 8 is the Second Sunday of Easter and the Feast of Divine Mercy. On the day, the Church will celebrate the great fount of mercy flowing from Jesus’ heart, as revealed to a Polish contemplative nun, St. Faustina Kowalska, in a series of private revelations in the 1930s and recorded in her diary. Here are some of the observances planned for the Feast of Divine Mercy in parishes in the Jefferson City diocese. Brunswick — Divine Mercy Holy Hour, 2 p.m., St. Boniface Church

Columbia — Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament, chanting of the Divine Mercy Chaplet, silent prayer, reading from St. Faustina’s diary, brief sermon, and Benediction, 3 p.m., Our Lady of Lourdes Church

— “Face of Mercy” documentary shown, 2:30 p.m., parish office, followed by prayer, Sacred Heart Church

Jefferson City — Divine Mercy devotions, 4:30 p.m., Cathedral of St. Joseph

— Divine Mercy Chaplet, 10:45 a.m., St. Peter Church

Kirksville — Friday, March 30, opening of the Divine Mercy Novena, with the Divine Mercy Chaplet and Stations of the Cross, 3 p.m.; Sunday, April 8, closing of the Divine Mercy Novena, 3 p.m., Mary Immaculate Church

Laurie — Sacrament of reconciliation, 2:30 p.m., Divine Mercy Chaplet prayed, 3 p.m., followed by cake and ice cream in the parish hall, St. Patrick Church
