Winter
What better way to start off this Year of Hope than to study the stories in the bible where Jesus brought this hope to others through His ministry of healing. This Bible study, is part of the Word Among Us's popular Keys to the Bible series, will examine six of the Gospel stories in which Jesus healed those suffering from a variety of physical or spiritual afflictions. While healings demonstrate the love and compassion that Jesus has for each one of us, they are also a sign of the new creation he came to inaugurate—an announcement that the kingdom of God is at hand. Even today, supernatural healing gifts are meant to be a sign that God is present and active in the world today. This study will help you view Jesus' healings in a new way and encourage you to pray for healing for yourself, your family, and those you encounter each day.
Each session of this Bible study features
—the Scripture text to be studied and insightful commentary.
—questions for reflection, discussion, and personal application.
—"In the Spotlight" sections featuring witnesses of modern-day healings.
Spring
Next we will again join the women of Endow in a study exploring how we maintain this hope when life gives us the challenge of suffering. Suffering is part of life. Spend time with other women exploring how they have walked this journey and get words of wisdom from Pope John Paul II on how we can find hope in spite of it.
Reconciling the weight of the world’s beauty with the weight of human suffering is a problem almost as old as the world itself. Every age and every culture has attempted to understand the meaning of human suffering. In this study guide, you will meditate upon the words of Pope St. John Paul II. Through this study, you will examine your own heart, mind, and actions, seeking to find the meaning in your own walk through ‘the Valley of Tears.’
Summer
This is a year of pilgrimage. Take this summer to visit some of our diocese pilgrimage sites but why not also study the journey of the pilgrim's of our faith history.
Come along on four major pilgrimages in Scripture —the journey of trust with Abraham and Sarah, the journey of freedom with Moses and the Hebrew people, the journey of exile and return with Israel, and the journey of discipleship with Jesus and his followers. God's call sometimes leads and sometimes sends, and the destinations can be new and wondrous or even dark and dangerous. What makes the journey a pilgrimage is God's abiding companionship. Commentary, study and reflection questions, prayer and access to online lectures are included.
Fall
Finally, we will end the year looking to the female doctors of the Church for examples of hope as we end this year of the Jubilee of Hope.
Throughout the history of the Catholic Church, in her most troubled and turbulent times, God has raised up great saints as beacons of hope in the midst of darkness. Among these great saints, the four women Doctors of the Church stand out as models of courage, wisdom, and trust. Their example and teachings remain with us, are relevant to the challenges of our own day, and urge us on to renewal with unwavering hope.
“Trust shows the way,” wrote Saint Hildegard of Bingen. These words set the courageous standard by which she, Teresa of Ávila, Catherine of Siena, and Thérèse of Lisieux lived. The phrase can be considered the watchword for the Church in every age, and especially in our own.
In Women of Hope, Terry Polakovic introduces these amazing women and describes the troubled times in which they lived and persevered. These women remind us that God can work through anyone to bring about his purpose. They prove to us that, as Christians, we can live in confident hope, no matter the circumstances in which we find ourselves.
What a beautiful way to end the year!
