Welcoming the Stranger: Faith, Dignity and the Call to Accompaniment
Presented by Bishop Mark J. Seitz, D.D. of the Diocese of El Paso (TX)
In this enlightening talk on immigration’s profound moral and spiritual dimensions, Bishop Seitz will address the realities faced by migrants and asylum seekers, explore Catholic social teaching on human dignity and solidarity, and discuss the Gospel call to welcome the stranger. Drawing on Scripture and his personal experience along the US-Mexico border, Bishop Seitz will emphasize compassion and understanding in responding to immigration and the current campaign of mass deportation and engage attendees in discussion about how faith communities can support immigrants and promote a culture of welcome.
