Curriculum Guidelines

The Diocese of Jefferson City has developed Standards of Learning Curriculum Guidelines for each subject area in grades Preschool-8th grade. The purpose of these guidelines is to provide clear and consistent grade level expectations for teachers, families, and students. They were developed by utilizing state and national standards, professional educational organization standards, and curriculum standards from various diocese. Each were reviewed by Diocese of Jefferson City administrators and representative groups of teachers prior to adoption. In addition to this, Religion standards were reviewed by representative diocesan priests to ensure each standard is rooted in the Catechism of the Catholic Faith.
The Diocese of Jefferson City Standards of Learning are used by teachers to determine what standards to assess and to ensure alignment from one grade level to the next. In doing so, students who have completed all grade levels will have demonstrated competence in the knowledge and skills required in all subject areas. The Standards of Learning are organized into grade level groupings in order to better see this vertical alignment. While additional standards may be taught in a grade level, the standards listed are to be mastered by students by the end of that grade level.
Preschool-2nd grade report cards are standards based and were developed to reflect the priority standards for each grade level. This is to better inform families of student progress in mastering grade level standards each year. In sharing these documents with you, we invite you to explore how our Catholic schools strive to provide our students an academically rigorous and doctrinally sound program implemented through effective instruction.
Iowa Assessments

Iowa assessments, first administered to students in grades 3-8 in the fall of 2019, measure growth in core areas including reading, language, and mathematics, as well as Science and Social Studies. The accompanying charts show overall scores for the Diocese of Jefferson City in comparison to national normed scores.
