Let us pray
As we await the appointment of the next Bishop of Jefferson City, we invite our parishes and faithful to join us in prayer.
For our diocese as we await the appointment of a new Bishop and for Msgr. Kurwicki as he serves as diocesan administrator in the interim.
Let us pray to the Lord.

Prayer for a new Bishop:
O God, eternal shepherd,
who govern your flock with unfailing care,
grant in your boundless fatherly love
a pastor for your Church
who will please you by his holiness
and to us show watchful care.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever. Amen.Excerpt from the English translation of The Roman Missal © 2010 International Commission on English in the Liturgy Corporation. All rights reserved.

Confirmation scheduling
As you are aware, Archbishop McKnight was installed as the fifth Metropolitan Archbishop of Kansas City in Kansas on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. At that time, the Diocese of Jefferson City became a vacant see, until such time as a new bishop is appointed by the Holy Father and installed. On Monday, June 2, 2025, the college of consultors elected Monsignor Robert A. Kurwicki to serve as the diocesan administrator until a new diocesan bishop arrives.
Due to these unique circumstances, Confirmation scheduling for Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 will occur differently than it has in recent years. Monsignor Kurwicki has determined that while the See is vacant, responsibility for scheduling and celebrating Confirmation will fall to parish pastors and administrators. This includes the few Confirmations which have already been scheduled for this Fall.
Practically, this means that, for the coming year, pastors and administrators are free to schedule Confirmation within their parishes on whatever date(s) they choose, and Monsignor Kurwicki has granted a general delegation to all pastors and administrators to administer the Sacrament of Confirmation within their parishes for the duration of the vacant see. A copy of that decree of delegation has been attached to this memo.
At this time next year, either the diocesan administrator or the new diocesan bishop will determine how Confirmation scheduling will work for Fall 2026 and Spring 2027.
If you have any questions about Confirmation scheduling or liturgy planning, please feel free to reach out to Father Berhorst at mc@diojeffcity.org. If you have questions about the Confirmation Policy, or sacramental preparation in general, please contact Maureen Quinn at maureenquinn@diojeffcity.org.

Missions Special Collection
The weekend of July 19-20, the Diocese of Jefferson City will hold a special collection to support to our brothers and sisters in need, including in the home dioceses of the mission priests serving us.
Please help us promote this collection in your parish using various materials found in the promotional toolkit at this link.
The diocese is providing special envelopes for this collection that will be included in the July 11 issue of The Catholic Missourian. However, parishioners aren’t required to use this envelope; they can use any envelope marked for this collection, or they can donate online at diojeffcity.org/donate-missions.
Parishioners will be instructed to make checks out to their parish for this collection. Parishes can then deposit the proceeds locally – please do not send the envelopes directly to the Chancery.
When the collection is complete, parishes should then send one check to the diocese comprising the entire collection from that parish. Funds brought into the parish for this collection are considered extraordinary income and thus not subject to the tithe.
Thank you for your help in promoting this important collection!

Podcast: Our experience as Pilgrims of Hope
We are now roughly halfway into our Jubilee year, a time when we are called to be Pilgrims of Hope.
In the latest episode of our diocesan podcast, we highlight a group of young people who recently took that concept literally by spending their spring break from college traveling as pilgrims to visit holy sites in Rome. Listen to the podcast to hear their reflections from their trip.

Save the Date - July Parish Secretaries' Workshop
Due to ongoing renovations at the Chancery building, the next quarterly Parish Secretaries' workshop will be held in July instead of June this year. This workshop will be hosted in-person, as well as via Zoom on July 23, 2025 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Pastors/Administrators are welcome and encouraged to attend.
We are allocating more time for this workshop to provide in-depth presentations on topics relating to your role as Parish Secretary. Many topics have been covered over the last few years, but we want to know:
- What topics would be most helpful to you?
- What topics should we revisit, or go into more detail?
- What questions do you have?
This is a great opportunity for networking with other parish staff from around the diocese! Please let us know your topic requests and questions by emailing Bernadette Adams at badams@diojeffcity.org.

Discovering God's hope during a Year of Jubilee
This holy year invites the faithful to embrace the spirit of hope. As we embark on this year of Jubilee, there will be numerous opportunities to experience grace, including by participating in special Jubilee Masses or joining a pilgrimage.
There are several new materials available to parishes, including branded assets, promotional materials, a pilgrimage passport and other handouts for parishioners. Please help us promote these unique opportunities throughout the year!
We encourage you to get started with our parish guide to the 2025 Jubilee Year. This guide includes information on how you can get involved as a parish, what resources are available, and ideas for creating Jubilee events at your parish.
This folder will be updated with resources throughout the year. Please continue to check the Monday Morning Memo for new updates!

Help promote our P23 Camp
Camp P23 is an overnight summer camp for junior high boys that pulls from Psalm 23 in looking at Christ and his priests through the identity of a shepherd.
Over 3 days/2 nights at this outdoor-focused experience, campers join small groups led by seminarians and participate in games, prayer, and activities that promote openness to the priestly vocation.
Please help us promote this camp in your parish! A promotional toolkit is now available at this link. This kit includes an 8.5x11" flyer, postcard, bulletin graphics and social media graphics and videos.
Thank you for sharing!
