Let us pray for Archbishop Shawn McKnight and the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas
Last week, the diocese of Jefferson City bid farewell to Archbishop Shawn McKnight during a Mass of Thanksgiving. Editor Jay Nies describes the scene in a story that will be published in this week's issue of The Catholic Missourian (click here to read the full story):
In procession, Father Stephen Jones solemnly removed Archbishop Shawn McKnight’s Coat of Arms from above the bishop’s chair in the Cathedral of St. Joseph.
The chair and the place where the Coat of Arms hung will remain empty until a new bishop of Jefferson City is installed, at a time now known only to God.
“As I leave the Diocese of Jefferson City, I ask that you continue to work together in this time of transition, in the words of St. Paul, with ‘heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience, bearing with one another and forgiving one another,’” said Archbishop McKnight, who is to be installed as archbishop of Kansas City in Kansas May 27.
He served for seven years and three months as head of the Jefferson City diocese.
“You will always be in my heart, in my thoughts and in my prayers,” Archbishop McKnight stated in his homily during a Mass of Thanksgiving May 20 in the Cathedral.
“We were better together!” he declared, echoing one of his favorite phrases. “May your next bishop find a willing flock to follow the call of the Lord to be united in heart and mind in what we believe, in how we pray, and in the practice of charity.”
Archbishop McKnight then repeated the words, taken from the Preface to the Eucharistic Prayer, that he chose to be his motto when he became a bishop in 2018: “Let us give thanks to the Lord!”

What comes next?
This Tuesday, May 27, a Mass of Installation will be held in the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas. At that time, the Most Reverend Shawn McKnight will become the Archbishop of Kansas City in Kansas and the Diocese of Jefferson City will become a vacant see.

Continuing this week
Temporary Chancery office closure
The Chancery office continues to be closed due to work on the building's heating and cooling system.
Currently, we expect sections of the building to reopen over a two- to four-week period.
Chancery staff will be working remotely during this time.
Please continue to contact staff members for assistance as you would normally. The main Chancery phone line (573-635-9127) will remain operational, though you will have the opportunity to dial staff extensions directly prior to speaking with the receptionist. We encourage you to do so.
For your convenience, we are providing this one-page list of contact information for staff members who typically work in the Chancery office to ensure you can reach the person you need to contact.

Thank you for your patience during this time!
