Statement: Our faith calls us to pursue humane and just solutions to the challenges of immigration

The people entrust our elected leaders with the responsibility to enact policies that promote the safety and well-being of all. Securing our nation’s borders is essential as we seek to protect our communities and maintain societal order. At the same time, immigrants deserve a fair, transparent, and efficient process as they seek entry — a standard our current immigration system regrettably fails to meet.
As people of faith, we must advocate for solutions rooted in compassion rather than fear or unnecessary harshness. While I support the deportation of violent criminals who are unlawfully present, I stand firmly against enforcement measures that instill fear or disrupt the stability of peaceful communities. These actions violate our moral principles.
Our faith calls us to pursue humane and just solutions to the challenges of immigration. We must uphold our own dignity by treating the most vulnerable among us with respect and care. Those who come to our churches, volunteer beside us, and make great sacrifices for their families embody the very values that define the American Dream.
As we navigate these complex issues, I pray for our public leaders to be guided by wisdom and courage. I urge them to craft policies that balance the need for secure borders with fundamental human rights and dignity of all individuals.

El pueblo confía a los líderes electos la responsabilidad de implementar políticas que promuevan la seguridad y el bienestar de todos. Asegurar las fronteras de nuestra nación es esencial en la búsqueda de proteger nuestras comunidades y mantener el orden social. Al mismo tiempo, los inmigrantes merecen un proceso justo, transparente y eficiente de cara a su ingreso al país; un estándar que, lamentablemente, no cumple nuestro actual sistema migratorio.
Como personas de fe, debemos abogar por soluciones basadas en la compasión y no en el miedo o en un rigor innecesario. Aunque apoyo la deportación de criminales violentos que se encuentran ilegalmente en el país, me opongo firmemente a aquellas medidas de aplicación que infunden miedo o alteran la estabilidad de las comunidades que viven en paz. Estas acciones violan nuestros principios morales.
Nuestra fe nos llama a buscar soluciones humanas y justas a los desafíos que la inmigración plantea. Debemos defender nuestra propia dignidad tratando a los más vulnerables de entre nosotros con respeto y cuidado. Aquellos que vienen a nuestras iglesias, que se ofrecen como voluntarios junto a nosotros y que hacen grandes sacrificios por sus familias, encarnan los mismos valores que definen al “sueño americano”.
A medida que navegamos por estos complejos asuntos, rezo para que nuestros gobernantes sean guiados por la sabiduría y la valentía. Los insto a que elaboren políticas que equilibren la necesidad de tener fronteras seguras con el respeto a los derechos humanos fundamentales y a la dignidad de todas las personas.
