Embracing Hope

The Jubilee Year of Pilgrims of Hope invites all of us into a season of renewal, a time to embrace the hope that Christ offers us — especially with the challenges we face in our world today.
In many ways, this Jubilee Year could not come at a better time. Some feel overwhelmed by the weight of their personal problems—and still others by the world’s problems—and it can be easy to lose sight of the hope that lies at the heart of our faith.
Yet, as we embark together as pilgrims of hope, we know that the troubles of life will not simply disappear because of our faith. Rather, our observance of this special year is yet another call from God to look beyond our immediate circumstances and to place our trust in the unshakable hope that comes from Him. It is an invitation to turn our hearts to Christ as he walks with us through the trials of life and offers us the strength to persevere with courage and love.
This year of Jubilee invites us to rediscover a sense of our personal calling from God to our own vocation in this life. Though we are different in our unique calls from God, each one of us shares the same common realities for all who have been created and redeemed by Him. We all have been called to life, and we all have been invited to share in the graces won for us by His Son. We are given the gift of a firm grounding of faith which provides stability and our purpose in life; we have been given the gift of a lively hope, which goes beyond a mere optimism about the future being better, but a present reality which allows us to carry us through the present moments of difficulty; and we have been given the grace to respond in charity to those around us, living the divine life.
This year will call us to live differently — to be a light in the darkness, to seek peace in times of conflict, to show compassion to those who are suffering, and to speak the truth in love. Hope challenges us to rise above the fears, anxieties, and doubts that threaten to shake us from the path of living as stewards of God’s gifts and fulfilling our own purpose in life.
In this Year of Jubilee, I invite you to be a hope-bearer in your family, in your community, in your parish, in our diocese, and in every human interaction. Let us be leaders in how we respond to the division and despair in our society, leading with acts of kindness, patience, and understanding.
Let us remember that true hope does not come from a world that is perfect, but from a Savior who is always with us, guiding us and filling us with peace.
The year of hope is a reminder that, no matter how dark some days may seem, God is always working in our lives and in the world. He is making all things new, restoring what is broken, and drawing us ever closer to Himself.
May the light of Christ shine brightly in our hearts through this year of Jubilee, illuminating the path before us.
And may we, in turn, share that light with all those we encounter.

Este Año de Jubileo: Peregrinos de la Esperanza, nos invita a todos a una época de renovación, un tiempo para abrazar la esperanza que Cristo nos ofrece, especialmente ante los desafíos que enfrentamos en nuestro mundo actual.
En muchos sentidos, este Año Jubilar no podría llegar en un mejor momento. Algunos se sienten abrumados por el peso de sus problemas personales y, otros, por los problemas del mundo, lo cual puede fácilmente hacernos perder de vista la esperanza que se encuentra en el corazón de nuestra fe.
Sin embargo, al embarcarnos juntos como peregrinos de la esperanza, sabemos que los problemas de la vida no desaparecerán simplemente por nuestra fe. Más bien, nuestra observancia de este año especial es otro llamado de Dios a ver más allá de nuestras circunstancias inmediatas y a depositar nuestra confianza en la esperanza inquebrantable que viene de Él. Es una invitación a volver nuestro corazón a Cristo, que camina con nosotros a través de las pruebas de la vida y nos ofrece la fuerza para perseverar con valentía y amor.
Este año de Jubileo nos invita a redescubrir el sentido de nuestro llamado personal de Dios a nuestra propia vocación en esta vida. Aunque somos diferentes por los llamados singulares que Dios nos hace, cada uno de nosotros comparte las mismas realidades comunes de todos los que han sido creados y redimidos por Él. Todos hemos sido llamados a la vida y todos hemos sido invitados a compartir las gracias que Su Hijo obtuvo por nosotros. Se nos da el don de una base sólida de fe que proporciona estabilidad y nuestro propósito en la vida; se nos ha dado el don de una esperanza viva, que va más allá de un mero optimismo sobre un futuro mejor, una realidad presente que nos permite superar los momentos actuales de dificultad; y se nos ha dado la gracia de responder con caridad a quienes nos rodean, viviendo así la vida divina.
Este año nos llamará a vivir de manera diferente: a ser luz en la oscuridad, a buscar la paz en tiempos de conflicto, a mostrar compasión por los que sufren y a decir la verdad con amor. La esperanza nos desafía a elevarnos por encima de los miedos, las ansiedades y las dudas que amenazan con desviarnos del camino de vivir como buenos administradores de los dones de Dios y a cumplir nuestro propio propósito en la vida.
En este Año Jubilar, los invito a ser portadores de esperanza en su familia, en su comunidad, en su parroquia, en nuestra diócesis y en toda interacción humana. Seamos líderes en la forma en que respondemos a la división y la desesperación en nuestra sociedad, liderando con actos de bondad, paciencia y comprensión.
Recordemos que la verdadera esperanza no viene de un mundo perfecto, sino de un Salvador que siempre está con nosotros, guiándonos y llenándonos de paz.
El año de la esperanza es un recordatorio de que, sin importar cuán oscuros puedan parecer algunos días, Dios siempre está trabajando en nuestras vidas y en el mundo. Él está renovando todas las cosas, restaurando lo que está roto y acercándonos cada vez más a Él.
Que la luz de Cristo brille con fuerza en nuestros corazones durante este año de Jubileo, iluminando el camino que tenemos por delante.
Y que nosotros, a su vez, compartamos esa luz con todos aquellos que encontremos.
