Designating Pilgrimage Sites for the Diocese of Jefferson City

Pilgrimage is of course a fundamental element of every Jubilee event. Setting out on a journey is traditionally associated with our human quest for meaning in life. A pilgrimage on foot is a great aid for rediscovering the value of silence, effort and simplicity of life. In the coming year, pilgrims of hope will surely travel the ancient and more modern routes in order to experience the Jubilee to the full.” (Spes non confundit, 5).

In a decree granting the Indulgence for the 2025 Jubilee Year Pilgrims of Hope, the Apostolic Penitentiary supplied Diocesan Bishops the authority to designate pilgrimage locations within his Diocese so that more of the faithful would be able to obtain the Indulgence. 

Considering the numerous sacred spaces within the Diocese I have selected the following locations, which together with the Cathedral in the See City Deanery, offer a location in each Deanery. 

I therefore,

DECREE

That the following locations are designated as pilgrimage locations which when visited during the Jubilee Year with the appropriate intention and under the usual conditions will fulfill the requirements contained in the above referenced decree by the Apostolic Penitentiary:

  • See City Deanery – Cathedral of St. Joseph, Jefferson City, MO
  • North Deanery – The Shrine of St. Patrick, St Patrick, MO
  • Central Deanery – St. Peter Church, Brush Creek, MO
  • Southwest Deanery – The National Shrine of Mary, Mother of the Church, Laurie MO
  • Southeast Deanery – The Shrine of Our Lady of Sorrows, Starkenburg, MO
