Due to the large geographic area covered by the Diocese of Jefferson City and the rural nature of much of its territory, it is a practical necessity for the priests of the diocese to own and operate motor vehicles in service of their mission. The priests of the diocese are already required to purchase their own individual automobile insurance policies in conformity with the laws of the State of Missouri. Due to the multiplicity of insurance coverage options and because of the potential liability for the individual priests as well as the Diocese of Jefferson City, it is opportune to provide greater clarity regarding the purchase of individual automobile insurance.

In consultation with the Presbyteral Council and the Chief Financial Officer of the diocese, I have established the Automobile Insurance Coverage Policy.

I therefore
DECREE

that the Diocesan Automobile Insurance Coverage Policy, including new required coverage minimums, be promulgated on the diocesan website, and that it will take effect on 1 July 2024, all things to the contrary notwithstanding. It is furthermore required that all priests bring their automobile coverage into conformity with this policy by no later than 31 August 2024. The Finance Office of the Diocese of Jefferson City may from time to time update the required coverage limits contained in this policy, but not more than once per year.
