Shaping Our Future Together

Bishop issues pastoral letter, deanery plans published

As we move forward in our work on Shaping Our Future Together, the Most Reverend W. Shawn McKnight, Bishop of Jefferson City, has issued a new pastoral letter alongside the publication of deanery plans and a new diocesan pastoral process.

All the faithful are strongly encouraged to read these new documents, which are currently being formatted for widespread dissemination across the diocese:

Bishop McKnight highlighted this progress during the diocesan Chrism Mass, held on March 26 at the Cathedral of St. Joseph. During his homily at the Chrism Mass, Bishop McKnight said:

These new plans continue the themes of our previous plans, but they seek to deepen our immersion into the mystery of the Church as missionary: through a greater commitment to living the spirituality of stewardship, to an even more effective practice of co-responsibility, and by our parishes becoming even better recognized as centers of charity and sanctuaries of mercy. The pastoral letter uses the Beatitudes to provide greater inspiration and specificity for our parishes as centers of charity and sanctuaries of mercy.

The Beatitudes are key moments in our lives to which the Holy Spirit is drawn: in our poverty of spirit and its many forms…when we mourn, are meek, are merciful, pure of heart, hunger and thirst for justice, are peacemakers, and when we suffer for the sake of Jesus’ Name. When Jesus preaches that He has been anointed to bring glad tidings to the poor, this is what he means: to live fully and even embrace the mystery of the Beatitudes in our own individual lives, and in our ecclesial life together.

OCP Parish Grants Program

Since 2001, the OCP Parish Grants Program has donated more than $3.45 million to parishes seeking to enhance their worship experience.

The Parish Grants Program is open to all Roman Catholic parishes and campus ministries (that can demonstrate a consistent Mass schedule throughout the year) in the U.S. and within U.S. territories. Applicants do not have to use an OCP worship program to qualify – only those parishes that received a 2023 Parish Grant are ineligible to apply.

Awarded grants must be used for liturgical and/or musical purposes. Common uses include: purchasing new music and worship resources, repairing or replacing musical instruments, attending or hosting conferences and workshops, improving multicultural ministries through training or purchasing bilingual resources, and more.

2024 applications

Applications for 2024 OCP Parish Grants are being accepted now through May 30, 2024. To apply, a parish representative simply needs to fill out an online application at ocp.org/parish-grants. Grant recipients will be announced in August. For more information, please visit ocp.org/parish-grants.

Women’s Conference of Healing and Forgiveness
