How to Set Up Two-Factor Authentication
As of December 18, 2024, Blackbaud is mandating all users within our parish website program to set up two-factor authentication for their accounts. Two-factor authentication provides a strong layer of security by requiring an individual to have access to your password and your mobile device, should they try to get into your account. Two-factor authentication requires the use of a smartphone or tablet.
If you do not have access to a smartphone or tablet, please contact awilliams@diojeffcity.org and we’ll find a solution that will give you access to your website.
1. You will need to download an authentication app to your mobile device (the Google Play Store links are below, but they’re also available in the Apple App Store). The apps available are:
If you have any questions about installing or using these apps, please let Annie Williams know at awilliams@diojeffcity.org. Once the app is installed, follow these instructions:
2. On your computer: Go to the backend of your website and hover over the “Howdy, [your username] in the upper right corner. Then, click “Edit Profile.”
3. Scroll down to the Wordfence Login Security section and click the “Activate 2FA” button.
4. Find the “Scan Code or Enter Key” section. You’ll need to use these for the next part. Please continue to Step 5.
5. Open your authenticator app (i.e. Google Authenticator, as shown below) and find the tool for adding accounts (on Google Authenticator, it’s the little “+” icon in the lower right corner). Scan the QR code on your computer or type in the key underneath the QR code (as shown below):
6. After you type in the key or scan the QR code using your authenticator app, complete any steps that the app asks you to complete. Do you see codes appearing in the application? If so, continue to Step 7.
7. Look at your website on your computer again and find the “Enter Code from Authenticator App” section on the right side. Write down or save the 5 recovery codes listed there in a safe place. These can be used as a backup to log in just in case you ever lose your phone.
8. After you’ve saved those 5 codes, find the little box under the sentence “Enter the code from your authenticator app below to verify and activate two-factor authentication for this account.” Click in that box. Then, open your authenticator app on your phone — a code will appear in the app. Type that code in the box on your computer. Then, click the “Activate” button under that box.
9. If the activation is successful, the following message will occur. If the message does not appear, please contact awilliams@diojeffcity.org for troubleshooting.
If you’ve already saved those 5 recovery codes from earlier, click the “Skip” button. If you haven’t saved them yet, click the “Download” button and the website will give you a file that you can save on your computer.
10. You’re all done! After you click one of those buttons, you’ll be directed to the Login Security screen. You can return to this page in the future to set up a new form of two-factor authentication or retrieve your 5 recovery codes.
When you log in to the website in the future, you’ll be prompted to enter a code from your app just as you did here. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Annie Williams at awilliams@diojeffcity.org.
