“Join me in prayer for Pope Francis”

Bishop McKnight releases statement on Pope’s 10th anniversary

The Most Reverend W. Shawn McKnight, Bishop of Jefferson City has released the following statement as we mark the 10th anniversary of Pope Francis’s election to the papacy. He was elected by a papal conclave on March 13, 2013.

I invite the faithful of the Diocese of Jefferson City to join me in prayer for Pope Francis as we mark 10 years of his papacy. Pope Francis has embraced his call to be our teacher and pastor, emphasizing God’s mercy and calling us to look to our faith as a means to heal our painful divisions. By inviting us all into a synodal conversation, he has asked Catholics everywhere to open their hearts as we strive to understand and live out God’s plan for his church.

We are truly better together — always.

With prayer, let us move forward with our Holy Father. Learning from his leadership, may our parishes and our diocese grow toward a stronger communion, cultivating our faith and reflecting the beauty of God’s mercy.

Novena in honor of St. Joseph

Join us in prayer in preparation for the solemnity on March 20

Join Bishop McKnight in praying the novena in honor of St. Joseph in preparation for the solemnity on March 20. The prayer for this novena is also available here.

Ant: Saint Joseph, our protector, pray for us.

V. Behold, the faithful and wise servant.

R. Whom the Lord has placed over His household.

V. Let us pray. Heavenly Father, at the beginnings of our salvation, when Blessed Mary conceived your Son and brought Him forth into the world, You placed them under Saint Joseph’s watchful care. May his prayers help Your Church to be an equally faithful guardian of Your mysteries, and a sign of Christ to all humanity. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

R. Amen

Easter Special Collection

Envelopes will be inserted in the March 31 issue of the Catholic Missourian

This Easter, the Diocese of Jefferson City is holding a special collection in support of retired priests and religious.

This important collection helps us give back to those who have dedicated their lives to sharing the good news of the Risen Christ. Donations given during this collection will support the Retirement Fund for Religious as well as retired priests in our diocese.

The diocese is providing special envelopes for this collection. They will be delivered to our faithful as an insert in the March 31 issue of the Catholic Missourian — however, parishioners aren’t required to use this envelope, they can use any Easter collection envelope.

Parishioners will be instructed to make checks out to their parish for this collection. Parishes can then deposit the proceeds locally — please do not send the envelopes directly to the Chancery. After Easter, parishes should then send one check to the diocese comprising the entire collection from that parish.

As we move forward with our diocesan-wide stewardship renewal, the Easter Special Collection will be one of just three annual special collections held in our parishes. The others are the Christmas special collection for our seminarians and infirm priests, and a collection in July in support of our missions.

Please click here to download sample talking points for our priests to use as they introduce this collection during upcoming Masses.

Lenten Pilgrimage of Healing

The National Shrine of Mary, Mother of the Church is hosting a Lenten Pilgrimage of Healing on Thursday, March 30 beginning at 5 p.m. Pilgrims will have the opportunity for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, available in both English and Spanish, before or after Mass; Mass will be at 5:30 p.m. and adoration and healing prayer will be offered following Mass.

Father Norbert Rappold, from the Diocese of Little Rock, will celebrate Mass and offer healing prayer and laying of hands. Father Rappold has said he has seen God move in miraculous ways through his devotion to Jesus Christ and the Blessed Mother. He actively prays for healing in his parish, area hospital and nursing homes, at conferences, and at Healing Masses.

The National Shrine of Mary, Mother of the Church is nestled within the Ozark hills of Missouri on 60 acres in Laurie, Missouri. It is adjacent to St. Patrick Parish at 176 Marian Dr., Laurie, MO 65037.

Colloquially known as the “Mothers’ Shrine,” the Shrine is dedicated to Mary, Mother of the Church and to all mothers. The Shrine features an awe-inspiring 14-foot stainless steel sculpture of Mary, with her arms outstretched to welcome all to her embrace. The platform that holds the sculpture of Mary turns 360 degrees every four minutes to face all pilgrims as they enjoy our grounds.

Registration is not required for this event, and all are welcome and invited to come for healing and prayer. More information can be found at mothersshrine.com, or by calling 573-374-MARY (6279).

Account holders update

In April 2021, the Diocese of Jefferson City Fund began using Mateo software to track parish deposits and loans. Part of the functionality of the Mateo software is to generate monthly statements. Once a month is closed, statements are sent by email to all account holders.

An additional feature of Mateo is the ability for account holders to log in and download their statements and view balances at their convenience. There is also the ability to run a summary report for any period.

After the last meeting of the Diocese of Jefferson City Fund Trustees on January 26, it was determined to roll the functionality of account user access to all account holders. Each account will have the pastor or parish life collaborator assigned to the customer access for internal control purposes.

In addition, the pastor or parish administrator may assign an additional person to have access to the account in order to print statements and run reports. For example, the additional person could be the bookkeeper or finance council president who utilize the statements for parish reporting.

Please use this address https://diojeffcity.org/finance-office-deposit-loan-statements-form/  to complete the form for your account by April 15

The Fund will send statements for February and March. Then, after May 5, each account holder will download the statements for April and following months as they become available.

Please email Kathy Smith (financeks@diojeffcity.org) with any questions.
