Survey for women
The Diocese of Jefferson City Women’s Ministry Office invites Catholic women throughout our diocese to take a few moments to complete an online survey before June 1. All information gathered will be used to discern proper resources, educational formation opportunities, programs and events specifically targeted to women in your parish and throughout the diocese. The results of the survey will be shared with pastors and parish women’s ministry representatives. Diocesan Directory updates and corrections
Updates from the first quarter of 2022 for the printed Diocesan Directory are now available for download here. Please correct your copy of the printed Directory using this information. Please observe that among the updates is a new email for St. Robert parish, email@example.com. If you used their previous email after Wednesday, April 13, please resend the communication. We are assisting them in launching a new website.
Note that the December 2021 update has initial corrections and updates for the printed Directory.
Save the Date: Parish Secretaries Workshop June 22, 10 am – 2 pm
The offices of the Moderator of the Curia and the Chancellor invite our parish secretaries to attend our next workshop in-person or on Zoom to provide you an added opportunity to network with your counterparts from around the diocese.
This extended workshop, which will include lunch, will allow for more in-depth presentations on topics relating to your role as parish secretary. Many topics have been covered over the last year, but we want to know:
- Are there any topics that you want us to revisit, or go into more detail?
- Are there topics that you would like us to address?
- Do you have particular questions or need clarification on a topic?
Please let us know your requests, suggestions, questions, etc. by emailing Bernadette Adams. As our usual practice, sessions will be recorded and available on the diocesan website for future viewing.
‘Regular’ Mass stipends not charitable contributions
Recently, the Finance Office has received several inquiries regarding Mass stipends (offerings) and whether they are considered to be charitable contributions. While IRS Rev. Rul. 78-366, 1978-2 C.B. 241 recognizes certain Mass stipends from bequests to be deductible as a charitable contribution of the estate because such funds are donated directly to the parish and become part of the general funds of the parish that are applied to all of the regular parish functions, the conditions of the ruling do not apply to payments made directly to an individual priest for offering a Mass. Mass stipends paid directly to priests are considered a payment for a service and are not considered to be a charitable gift. Therefore, the parish should not issue a charitable contribution letter for such offerings paid directly to priests or include them on the annual giving statements of the parish. St. Joseph Church in Palmyra is seeking a Director of Religious Education.
