Decree Updating Diocesan Active Priest Vacation Policy and Priest Compensation Policy

“Since clerics dedicate themselves to ecclesiastical ministry, they deserve remuneration, which is consistent with their condition, taking into account the nature of their function and the conditions of places and times, and by which they can provide for the necessities of their life as well as for the equitable payment of those whose services they need.” Canon 281 §1

In order to ensure the equitable remuneration of the priests of the Diocese of Jefferson City and those who serve the diocese it is necessary from time to time to adjust the Priest Compensation Policy. Having considered all the relevant factors, consulted the Presbyteral Council, and with the collaboration of the Finance Officer I now wish to introduce this new Priest Compensation Policy. The Policy shall take effect as of the 2022 – 2023 fiscal year which begins on 1 July 2022.

Furthermore, in the interest of clarity, I also wish to introduce a revised Active Priest Vacation Policy. This vacation policy is consistent with the norms of canon 533 and was created in collaboration with the Director of Human Resources.

I therefore,

DECREE

that updated Priest Compensation Policy and the Active Priest Vacation Policy shall be promulgated by being published on the diocesan website, and that they will take effect on 1 July 2022, all things contrary notwithstanding.

Given at the Chancery on the 25th day of February in the Year of Our Lord 2022.
