Bishop’s messages
New deaneries, coat of arms effective July 1
On March 9 I issued a decree establishing new deaneries for our diocese, which will be effective July 1. We will be publishing a map of the new deaneries in the April 30 issue of The Catholic Missourian, along with an article explaining the purpose of deaneries and how the new deaneries will support our parishes, including in their pastoral planning.
On March 19 I issued a decree creating a new coat of arms for our diocese, also effective July 1. In the upcoming weeks we will be providing digital files, a guide regarding the digital definitions of the primary colors in the new coat of arms (PMS, CYMK, HEX and RGB), and other details to assist parishes and schools in their use of the new coat of arms. Watch for another article in the April 30 issue of The Catholic Missourian about our new coat of arms.
Diocesan director of religious education and youth ministry
Maureen Quinn, currently employed at Helias Catholic High School, has accepted the position of director of religious education and youth ministry for the diocese. She will assume this position June 1 and will report to Deacon Enrique Castro.
Catholic Home Missions Appeal is April 24-25
The Catholic Home Mission Appeal primarily supports home mission dioceses, that is, those dioceses in the United States unable to offer their people the basic pastoral ministries of word, worship, and service without outside help. About 40 percent of U.S. dioceses are missionary territory, including the Diocese of Jefferson City. Last year, our diocese received $70,000 in a grant from the appeal to help support our Hispanic ministry office. The remaining funds were sent on to the national office to help support other rural dioceses. Please use the resources available from the USCCB and my letter to promote this appeal.

Promote your event!
Let us help promote your parish, school, organization or diocesan event. If you would like your event to be publicized in The Catholic Missourian and on the diocesan website calendar of events, please remember to submit an event listing request form. This form will also provide an opportunity for you to place a paid advertisement in the printed edition of The Catholic Missourian.
Parish staff orientation
It was exciting to have more than 70 parish staff join us for an orientation regarding letters of good standing, sacramental record-keeping, Hispanic ministry, websites and other communication services. Please mark your calendar for Wednesday, June 16, for the next orientation. We welcome your suggestions for an agenda; please email communication@diojeffcity.org. All of the sessions are now available as videos on our diocesan web page for Policies, Procedures and Best Practices.
Marriage preparation trainings for clergy and laity
Our new Marriage Preparation Policy, which becomes effective July 1, requires training. Priests will need to participate in the training (optional for retired clergy) and invite qualified lay people to be trained as marriage prep facilitators. Information on the qualities needed for these lay facilitators, how many are needed, and more can be found HERE.
Please, register for a training by using an online form. There are separate trainings for priests, deacons and lay people (in English and Spanish), with in-person and virtual options. The only charge to the parishes is $50 per lay individual/couple. All costs for priests and deacons are being covered by the diocese. Thank you for your kind attention to this important training.
ONE LICENSE Group agreement renews
The Diocese of Jefferson City has a group agreement with ONE LICENSE, which gives our parishes a 20% discount on ONE LICENSE’s rates. Our group agreement renews April 30. If you are interested in joining this group agreement, or changing your license to livestreaming only, please contact Helen Osman as soon as possible by email with the name of your parish, average weekly attendance, and the type of license you need (livestreaming only or printing and livestreaming). Reporting is easy via their online tools and ensures composers and artists are compensated for their music. For more information, view a workshop sponsored by our local NPM group and presented by ONE LICENSE.

The Director of Pastoral Counseling tends to the spiritual, mental, and emotional health of all parishioners (both students and residents). The Director is responsible for coordinating spiritual direction and providing counseling for students and residents.
