Suggested announcements regarding response to public health concerns

These are suggested announcements to be used at the beginning of Mass. Pastors should adapt as is appropriate for their parish’s pastoral needs.

  • During this cold and flu season all parishioners are reminded to use common good sense.
  • Out of an abundance of caution, those who are ill should stay home. Those who have weak or compromised immune systems (i.e., the elderly, the infirmed, infants and young children) should consider avoiding large gatherings. In this flu season, this means their obligation to attend Mass is lifted by the bishop.
  • In consideration of the severity of the flu season, we are suspending the distribution of the Precious Blood at Mass. We also ask that people use a bow to greet one another in the Sign of Peace, instead of a handshake, and forego the holding of hands at the Lord’s Prayer.
  • We pray for the health and recovery of all who are ill and not with us today. We encourage those who are home to join the community by praying the Sunday Scriptures, using the readings located at www.diojeffcity.org, and perhaps praying the Rosary or the Divine Chaplet.
