Media Information

  • ORDINATION AND INSTALLATION:  Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at 2 p.m. (entrance procession starts at 1:20 p.m.)
  • WHERE: Cathedral of St. Joseph – 2305 W. Main St., Jefferson City, Missouri
  • ATTENDANCE: The ceremony is by invitation only and requires a ticket.  Media seating for credentialed media representatives will be available in the rear of the church in the Bride’s Room. Admittance starts at 12:30 p.m. unless other arrangements are made. See below for obtaining media credentials.
  • CEREMONY NOTES: The Most Reverend Robert J. Carlson, Archbishop of St. Louis, will preside over the start of the Mass and serve as principal consecrator for the ordination. The Apostolic Nuncio (Ambassador) to the United States, the Most Reverend Christophe Louis Yves Georges Pierre, will read the Apostolic Mandate from Pope Francis naming Bishop-elect McKnight as the fourth Bishop of Jefferson City. After the letter is read, witnessed and recorded, Bishop McKnight will be led to the cathedra (the chair symbolizing the seat of the diocese) where he will take canonical possession of the Diocese of Jefferson City. Archbishop Carlson will preach the Homily.
  • EXPECTED ATTENDEES INCLUDE:  25 bishops (as of 1/31/18) from 10 states and 19 dioceses, including 6 archbishops. See the list here.

  • NEWS CONFERENCE: Bishop McKnight will make a brief statement and be available for news media questions at 5 p.m., at the Schwartze Catholic Center, 2207 W. Main St., (south of the Cathedral parking area).
