Every Monday the Chancery staff of the Diocese of Jefferson City offer an update on events and activities of interest to the parishes of the Diocese.
Rev. Cesar Anicama is released for service to the Society of St. James the Apostle for priestly ministry in his home country of Peru, effective Aug. 22. Father Anicama will continue to be incardinated in the Diocese of Jefferson City.
Deacon Kent Boettger, pastoral life collaborator, St. Bernadette, Hermitage and the mission of Our Lady of the Snows, Climax Springs, effective Sept. 1.
Rev. Geoffrey Brooke, parochial vicar, Immaculate Conception Parish, Jefferson City, effective July 16. Father Brooke also assists with the Hispanic Mass at St. Peter Parish, Jefferson City, and with emergency hospital calls on a rotating basis.
Rev. Michael Coleman, administrator of Holy Spirit Parish, Centralia, effective Sept. 1, continuing as chaplain at Fr. Augustine Tolton Regional Catholic High School.
Rev. Lou Dorn, retirement, effective Sept. 1. He will continue serving in prison ministry in Vandalia and will reside at the rectory at Sacred Heart, Vandalia.
Rev. Robert Fields, chaplain to the Carmelite Monastery, Jefferson City; part-time hospital chaplain, Jefferson City; Delegate of the Bishop for Ministry to the Deaf; and available for coverage, effective Sept. 1.
Rev William Korte, administrator of St. Joseph Parish, Louisiana and the mission of Mary Queen of Peace, Clarksville, effective Sept. 1.
Rev. Jim Offutt, retirement, effective Sept. 1.
Deacon Tony Valdes, pastoral service at St. George Parish, Linn, and Our Lady Help of Christians Parish, Frankenstein, effective Sept. 1.
After consulting their bishop ordinaries, Bishop McKnight announces the appointment of the following priests as pastors in their current parish assignments, effective Sept. 1: Rev. Joseph Abah, Rev. Alexius Ekka, Rev. Alexander Gabriel, Rev. Benjamin Nwosu, Rev. Augustine Okoli, and Rev. Callistus Okoroji.
Let us pray for our priests, deacons, and their communities as they transition into their next phase of ministry in the Church.

Prayer Intention for September
“For all those serving as first responders; may God protect them as they face danger with courage and provide healing assistance to those in need.”
Pope Francis has called all new bishops ordained this past year to attend a “school for new bishops” with the Congregation for Bishops in Rome, Sept. 4-14. I will remember the people of our diocese at the Altar of the Chair while in Rome. Please pray for me, as well.
Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary
Diocesan offices will be closed on Aug. 15 in observance of the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which is a holy day of obligation.
Aug. 31: Deadline to Submit Confirmation Programs for 2019
Thank you to the parishes that have submitted their parish response form indicated whether or not you plan to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation in 2019. Deadline to submit information is Friday, Aug. 31. If your parish does not plan to offer the sacrament this year, please submit the form indicating such. Sept. 8: 2018 Diocesan Youth Rally
Youth Ministry Leaders are encouraged to register teens to attend the 2018 Diocesan Youth Rally on Sept. 8, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Please visit www.oymdiojeffcity.com/youthrally for registration, promotional flyers, and all the details. This event only comes around every two years and promises to be a high-energy and prayerful experience for all involved.

John DeLaporte, the current diocesan Coordinator of Youth Ministry, is now also providing support to parish catechists and directors of religious education. All parish catechetical leaders are invited to attend an informational presentation and discussion on what this means for your ministry. This meeting will be offered twice, for your convenience. Update: Chancery Staff Changes
Enrique Castro, director of the Faith Formation Department. In addition to providing ministry to Hispanics, he is serving cross-cultural ministries and assisting with ministries in NFP (Natural Family Planning) and marriage preparation and enrichment, including Pre-Cana, Engaged Encounter, Marriage Encounter, and Retrouvaille.

Oct. 6: Annual Assembly of the Missouri Catholic Conference

Pope Francis calls Catholics to go to the peripheries. We invite you to attend the Missouri Catholic Conference’s 2018 Annual Assembly on Saturday, Oct. 6, at Helias Catholic High School in Jefferson City to find out how. This event is sponsored by the Missouri bishops and is free to all who attend. The keynote speaker will be Bishop Perry of the Chicago Archdiocese. Workshops will be offered on several issues, including pro-life, immigration law, the death penalty, the opioid epidemic, and a Catholic response to the LGBTQ community. Lunch is provided and the day will end with a Mass con-celebrated by the bishops. Please register for the event by going to MOCatholic.org or calling 800.456.1679.
