Join Us This Advent

Join Catholics throughout the 38 counties of the Diocese of Jefferson City in small group faith sharing this Advent.

A Steward’s Way consists of four sessions based on the Joy of the Gospel, Pope Francis’ apostolic exhortation. Reflect on how our faith provides a foundation of gratitude from which comes deep joy and hope for our lives, our families, our communities and our world. Your participation in these sessions will give us a common spiritual formation as Bishop McKnight leads us in a new pastoral plan for the next three to five years.

Please also help us spread the word about these sessions. Bishop McKnight’s vision is that every one in our diocese can participate, so we have a common spiritual formation leading into the development of a diocesan pastoral plan.

How to Participate

If you are already a member of a small faith-sharing group, Bishop McKnight is asking that you use your already scheduled sessions to join A Steward’s Way. No need to plan additional gatherings. Please use the resources on this website. If you are interested in printed copies of A Steward’s Way, please contact your parish office.

If you are not a member of a small faith-sharing group, contact your parish office to join groups being formed.

If your schedule doesn’t allow you to come to sessions, please consider joining the virtual small group sessions which will be meeting in a closed Facebook group.

What’s the process for the pastoral plan? | ¿Cuál es el proceso para el plan pastoral?

The Advent small faith-sharing groups will allow us to have a common framework for the next phase of the process, which will happen in Lent 2020.

During Lent, the small faith-sharing groups will meet again on a weekly basis. The groups will be asked to consider how their stewardship requires a co-responsibility between laity and clergy to enliven their parish as a center of charity and mercy. There will also be a tool for them to use to provide recommendations to their pastoral council for a theme of the diocesan pastoral plan. All of this information will be provided to the Diocesan Pastoral Council.

The Diocesan Pastoral Council will provide recommendations to Bishop McKnight for the development of the pastoral plan, which will guide the diocese for three-to-five years.

Who’s going to lead these small groups? | ¿Quién va a dirigir estos grupos pequños?

The program is intended to be self-explanatory. The members of the small faith-sharing groups will be able to facilitate the sessions. The material will be available in print and online, in English and Spanish. We will also provide podcasts which model how to reflect on the questions provided every week.
