Aug. 20, 2018 Weekly Memo

Every Monday the Chancery staff of the Diocese of Jefferson City offer an update on events and activities of interest to the parishes of the Diocese.

Bishop McKnight’s letter to the faithful and clergy

On Friday, a letter from Bishop McKnight, in English and Spanish, was made available to the parishes to be read at weekend Masses. Parishes were also invited to print the letter to place in their bulletins this weekend. You may find the letter on our website.

Prayer Intention for September

“For all those serving as first responders; may God protect them as they face danger with courage and provide healing assistance to those in need.”

“Por todas las personas que sirven como primeros socorristas; que Dios los proteja mientras se enfrentan al peligro con valentía y brindan ayuda sanadora a quienes más lo necesitan.”

A pdf of the prayer intention can be downloaded to be placed in your parish bulletin.

New dates: Catholic Stewardship Appeal

The Catholic Stewardship Appeal dates have been changed. The kickoff weekend will be Oct. 6-7 and the alternate will be Oct. 13-14.  Bishop McKnight’s letter to parishioners will go out that intervening week.

We apologize for the change, but this allows time to incorporate some changes being implemented this year. More importantly, Bishop McKnight would like to take advantage of the Priests Institute during the first week of October to personally address our priests about the CSA and his vision of stewardship.

Please contact Msgr. Robert Kurwicki or Mark Saucier with any questions. Gratitude is the foundation of stewardship and we are grateful for all you do in service to our Church.

New dates: Catholic Engaged Encounter

Catholic Engaged Encounter is an in-depth, private, personal, marriage preparation experience within the context of Catholic faith and values. Catholic Engaged Encounter is a weekend retreat away with other engaged couples with plenty of time alone together to dialogue honestly and intensively about their prospective lives together. It consists of a series of presentations beginning Friday evening and ending Sunday afternoon. The Engaged Encounter coordinators for our diocese are Deacon Burdett and Joyce Wilson.  The registration form and more information are available on our diocesan website.  The cost for the weekend is $100 per couple. A $25 deposit made payable to Engaged Encounter is required and to be included with the registration form. The weekends are held at St. Pius X in Moberly.

The dates for 2019 are:

  • Jan. 4-6
  • March 1-3
  • May 3-5
  • Aug. 2-4
  • Nov. 1-3
  • Jan. 3-5, 2020
