Leland Steinkuehler is a member of St. Joseph Cathedral Parish in Jefferson City. He grew up in Concordia, MO in a family that spoke low German, the same dialect used in many German communities in central Missouri. Concerned that the language of his heritage was dying out, he began collecting audio recordings of people who still knew the low German of his youth. The following are examples of both Flatlander and Rhinelander (Loose Creek) low German.
